| Till the end of last century, “landscape” as an academic issue has gradually be recognized and accepted by western anthropologists. This paper devotes to summarize and review the major trends and ideas of landscape research on anthropology during the last 30 years in western countries. There are three research directions we can follow: First, landscape as a process of cultural construction; secondly, the relationship of landscape, memory and identity; thirdly, landscape as an agent of power. In the end, this paper points out, Chinese anthropologists should pay more attention to “landscape” to explore the relationship between people and their homeland, as well as the history and contemporary condition of local cultures in a transitional age. Hopefully, a constructive communications with the west on this issue can be established in future. |
