| 威海卫租借地内的英国当局了解到太多的中国人尤其是女性实施自杀。鉴于此, 他们规定
了民众有报告自杀的义务, 教育大众及警察如何进行救助, 并且采取了为自杀救助工作任命了一名负有
特殊职责的医疗助手等措施。尽管清楚地知道在中国自杀所具有的社会意义, 然而政府在解决引起自
杀的原因上所做的努力却是有限的。尤其是在改变租借地内女性的生活环境方面, 政府所做甚少, 这是
与其总的管理政策相一致的, 那就是尽量不改变中国乡村的生活结构。地方法官在自杀问题的处理上
表现出对中国法律的遵从, 也是英国管理威海卫的这一总政策的部分表现。 |

| Weihaiwei leased territory of the British authorities learned that too many Chinese people , especially the female
suicided themselves .In view of this , they implemented measures included providing locals who had the oblig ation to repo rt
the suicide , educating the public and the police how to carry out relief and employing a medical assistant w ho took the special
responsibility fo r suicide rescue wo rk..Although they knew that the suicide in China had significant social meanings
v ery well, the effor ts of government raveled out the causes of suicide w as very limited .This happened especially in the
field of changing the female' s living surroundings in the leased territory .All these details above ex press that the act of
g overnment at that period of time would not change the living constructio n of Chinese earthbound society .The performance
of local judges' dealing with the suicide issues show s the observance to Chinese law which is a part of the performance
of the general policy on UK co ntrolled Weihaiwei. |
