| This ar ticle discusses a farmer' s notebook encountered in a remote village in nor th east China .Applying some
of the key concepts developed by ag rarian historians in Europe , the farm accountancy data entailed in the note boo k are ordered
and analyzed.The da ta show that there is considerable dy namism ;they also make clear that basically we are dealing
here with a peasant-like way of farming .The no te book also reveals many netwo rks in w hich the farm is embedded .I t is
arg ued that these ne tw orks point to the centrality of social capital .The paper concludes with an overview of the structure
of the rural economy in this part of China . |
