| 20 世纪初, 个体主义作为一个舶来品进入中国, 然而, 个体主义所蕴含的道德观念与传统中
国社会的“ 差序格局” 并不相容。从五四时期的知识分子到当代普通民众, 往往简化了个体主义的复杂
内涵并把它用作服务于各种目标的工具。进入中国百年, 个体主义至今依然作为一种他性而存在于中
国社会。回顾文献, 有助于我们认识西方个体主义在其历史演变过程中出现的各种相互牵涉与抵牾的
支流。更深刻的认识则有待我们进一步运用民族志的研究方法, 在参与观察他者的日常生活的基础上
获得。 |

| By review ing literatures on individualism this article arg ues that individualism has no t been compatible w ith
Chinese “ differential mode of asso ciation” since it was introduced into China .From the intellectuals in May Fourth Period
to those contemporary commo n peo ple , this usually simplified the complicated meaning of individualism and treated it as an
instrument ser ved fo r all kinds of purposes.As for Chinese experience , individualism is a kind of o therness .Literatures reveal
tha t individualism has a complex history and it is a set of mo ral v alues w hich inv olves v arious contradicto ry trends .To
g et in-depth understanding o f individualism new appro aches such as ethnog raphic research are needed. |
