英文摘要:

This essay is concerned with what cer tain strands of classical sociological thought , associated with Durkheim and Weber , may hav e to offer in the interpretation o f the Sing apore National Day Parade (NDP).The author argues that the NDP is a delibera te , conscious constructio n of representations associated with the nation-state.By being invented as a tradition , it requires bureaucratic , rational organization .I t creates a mechanical solidarity out of a society of organic solidarity. This is done by harnessing the institutions of the state.In short , from the Singapo re NDP we can see that Durkheimian functions are achieved throug h Weberian methods.
